After years of mystery, Gonzalo Morán from Havana has written to us to share his amazing discovery. He seems to have tracked down the makers of the beautiful mosaic floor at the lobby of Teatro América.
After months of investigation, Gonzalo Morán found a house in the Cerro Quarter (on Pedroso Street and still standing) that used to be the workshop of two Italian brothers who apparently made the terrazzo designs inside the theater.
The workshop -not running anymore- used to be called after one of the brothers, Luis Mión (Luiggi Mion originally).
The present façade still shows some of their designs as business decoys, one of them depicting the Aquarius starsign which is practically identical to the one on the floor of the theater's hall.
That to Gonzalo is proof enough, and we think he might be darn right.
So congratulations and thanks for sharing it with us and our followers!
